What to Look for in a Business IT Partner

Response time, documentation and honesty about what you don't need. Three questions worth asking before you sign anything.

What to Look for in a Business IT Partner

The best signal is documentation. Ask to see a sanitized network diagram and as-built from a recent client. A partner who documents thoroughly is a partner who expects to be accountable.

The second signal is what they talk you out of. Anyone who agrees with every line item on your wish list is selling, not advising.

The third is escalation. Find out exactly who you reach at 7am on a Monday, what happens if that person is unavailable, and how long you'll wait. Get it in the agreement.

Finally, ask about exit. A partner confident in their work will hand over credentials and documentation without friction. That willingness is the clearest proof they intend to earn the relationship every year.
