What Is Managed IT, and Does Your Business Need It?

Break-fix support charges you when things go wrong. Managed IT is designed so fewer things do. The difference shows up in your calendar.

What Is Managed IT, and Does Your Business Need It?

Managed IT means a fixed monthly relationship in which someone is responsible for monitoring, patching, backup verification and support — continuously — instead of arriving after a failure with an hourly rate.

The economics matter less than the incentives. Under break-fix, your vendor earns more when your systems break. Under a managed agreement, they absorb the cost of breakage, so prevention becomes their problem too.

The rough threshold is around ten employees, or any point at which a full day of downtime would cost more than a few months of support. Regulated data, remote staff and customer-facing systems all move that line earlier.

Ask any prospective partner three things: what they monitor, how often they test restores, and who answers at 7am. The answers tell you more than the price.

Questions about your own setup? A FinkIT assessment is free, and you keep the recommendations either way.
